Feel the beat, Make a move, Dance!

Updated: Oct 21, 2018

BY JENINE FLAMINIANO

Dance is more than just a sport, it’s a passion. Dance is something you work hard for, something you put all of your spare time and effort into. Dance is a sport that you never want to give up on. When the day of your dance competition arrives, you put everything you have learned about dancing over the years, and show it all to the hundreds of people watching you. No matter how exhausted you are on that dance floor, you may not give up. You need to dance until the very end, until you are the best dancer you can possibly be.

I AM A DANCER

I started dancing when i was just about 9 years old. That time, dancing’s nothing to me. I was just dancing for my grades because when we join some competitions outside the school and we represent our school, we are given some exemptions to our exams even if we win or lose. But as i saw the perspectives of other dancers about dancing, i was inspired. The old Jenine that was just dancing for grades is now dancing to entertain people, inspire other people and to achieve my goals as a dancer

When i was grade 7, i started to train hard to be a better dancer. We’re like athletes that we do some work outs for us to move as a team. No one is wise, no one is fool. We are all equal. At first, we failed many times but we the next we joined a competition, we make sure that we tried our best. The failure that we experienced serves as an inspiration for us to work harder and not to stop dreaming.

We faced many challenges that tested our patience in achieving our goals. There are times that my parents stopped me from dancing but i told them that this is my passion and this is what i really wanted to do. There are times that we saw our teammates slowly giving up, but at the end of the day, we find reasons to stay together and train as a team. As the time goes by, we are slowly realising that we are achieving our goals that we worked hard for.

Together with my team, i experienced joining a lot of competitions at different places such as Pampanga, Bongabon and many more. One of the biggest competition we competed is at Sydney, Australia. I still can’t believe that i am one of those dancers that has given a chance to represent our country. Even though we’re just 4th place, it was a big achievement as a dancer. My team became my second family. I’m very thankful that i have met them. They made me feel that i am not alone in facing my problems. They are always there to motivate me in my weaknesses when i was about to give up. They never left me. They are one of a million reasons why i love dancing.

I am very dedicated of what i am doing because i really love dancing. It is my way of expressing what i really feel. When i’m sad, all i wanted to do is to dance. When i feel like i was about to give up, i express myself through dancing. Dancing is more than just a sport, it is my passion. I am willing to make an effort and make time just for dance. Dancing has always been my passion and will forever be.
